Reader's Theatre of Abinadi's Appearance Before King Noah

Last year, while studying the New Testament, we had our students reenact the trial of Paul before Caesar. It went so well that we decided to try it again this year. We had come to Mosiah 11 in the Book of Mormon which recounts the activities of King Noah and introduces the prophet Abinadi.  In chapter 12 of Mosiah we read of Abinadi's appearance before King Noah and his wicked priests.  I turned Mosiah 12 - 17 into a multi-part reader's theatre/play.  In other words, I put Mosiah 12- 17 into a script format, the dialogue taken verbatim from the scriptures.  With a few props, including a sword and handcuffs, and a stage to lounge around on, the students brought to life the powerful testimony of Abinadi.

"Abinadi" is brought before "King Noah"
If you would like to use these scripts you are more than welcome to. Each script is broken up by chapter. I have also interrupted the scripts with "Discussion Items" -- these are questions or quotes, taken from the Seminary manual, that help students to grasp the principals contained within the chapters. Mosiah 15-17 is also slightly different in that there are several discussion items from chapter 17 that I pulled straight from the manual, and less actual "script" reading.  (Please note that the number you see in front of each script line is the verse number, I did not remove them when I pulled the text from the scriptures in case someone wanted to follow along in their actual scriptures.)

Below are the links to the various scripts.

Mosiah 12: Abinadi & King Noah, Part I

Mosiah 13-14: Abinadi & King Noah, Part II

Mosiah 15-17: Abinadi & King Noah, Part III

Because we have 18 regular attenders in our class we switched roles each chapter, to give everyone a chance to perform. I have found that acting helps keep our students awake and involved, and really brings to life the stories they read.
